Overview

This tour is perfect for both local Londoners who want a few hours out of the house and away from the crowds but also for foreign visitors who want just a taste of the beautiful English countryside & see some picturesque village scenes ...in London but a 'village' where the locals live.

Stanmore is right at the edge of the London Underground and this area has been important for thousands of years. We will visit prehistoric sites and Roman battlefields, see the oldest Oak tree in London and visit a WW2 Pillbox next to the old RAF HQ during the Battle of Britain.

Visit the home of a famous Prime Minister and explore what even Victorians said were the largest and most beautiful ruins in London.

It's hard to imagine as we explore the beautiful streets and woods, fields and lakes that we are still in London albeit where Highwaymen lived and Victorians and Edwardians who changed the world.

Near the end from 500 feet up, you'll enjoy a 40 mile view & see London as never before.

Stephen was a delightful guide for the tour. His knowledge of the area was so interesting and informative, with so much to see and learn.
Beautiful area with a fantastic combination of history and nature.

Social distancing was maintained and current Covid guidelines were strictly adhered, consequently I felt very safe attending the tour, despite the current circumstances.

I enjoyed the experience so much I have booked in for the 'Secret Gardens of the City of London' tour and ordered the accompanying book written by Stephen himself.

I have been on several tours over the years with other companies, however have found Ye Olde England tours (and Stephen) to be one of the best there is. I cannot recommend highly enough if this is your thing (or even if it's not!) as you will definitely leave feeling enriched from the experience.
Stanmore Circular Walking Tour - a superb tour - and a lot of fun too!

Despite living in the area for many years, my prior adventures have taken me to the far off corners of the world, overlooking a treasure trove of sights and history that lay on my doorstep. Thanks to Ye Olde England Tours, that all changed! From their enticing range of well researched tours that provided something different to the standard offering, to owner Stephen Liddell, who guided the tour, I was highly impressed by the communications, punctuality and smooth running of the walk. In addition to his voluminous knowledge of English culture and history, Stephen knew the route inside out, so offered plenty of flexibility to not tire me out while still ensuring I saw all the sights without a rush. Furthermore, his patience, down to earth wit and charm ensured that the walk felt more like a pleasant sunday morning stroll with a friend rather something with the feeling of being herded around. I would have no hesitation in recommending Ye Olde England Tours, especially for those with limited time or wanting to combine a number of sights not accomodated by larger tour companies. Indeed, I shall be following up by booking a lengthier multi day private tour with Stephen shortly!
